General History

O & S Research was founded in 1950 manufacturing optical prisms for RCA. In the 1960s and early 1970s the Company started manufacturing aircraft instrument wedge glass for evenly lighting electro-mechanical instruments at night. Its main customers were Sperry(Honeywell) and Collins Radio(Collins Aerospace). By the end of the 1970s the Company\\\\'s main focus was on aircraft instrument glass for commercial, military and business aviation platforms. By the end of the 1980s the Company was manufacturing glass for every type of cockpit instrument, LCD, LED, CRT, NVIS and EMD. In the early 1990s as flat panel LCD displays started entering the cockpit for use as PFDs and MFDs, the Company developed ultra-low anti-reflection coatings for improved contrast and conductive anti-reflection coatings for EMI shielding. The Company was selected to supply the anti-glare cover glasses for the space shuttle avionics upgrade program in 1997. In 2008 we were selected to supply glass for the Artemis/Orion CEV avionics.
